In the early 1980s, Tony Fernandes started working his way through college as a wallcovering installer. He enjoyed the work and developed a keen eye for quality. As his reputation grew, Tony nurtured relationships with a steadily increasing roster of clients. He obtained his subcontractor license in 1985, allowing him to pursue more commercial work.

His frustration with other tradespeople not living up to his standard of quality for preparing surfaces for wallcovering installation led to the need to incorporate this prep work into his business, including drywall, taping, and painting.

Once these additional services were offered, more general contractors appreciated the value and convenience of having one company with which to interact for their entire subcontracted finishing work. As demand for this type of work increased, the company added framing and finish carpentry to its list of services.

Today, Abayla Contracting Services, Inc. is a 25-person shop, working with many general contractors throughout the western United States. Abayla offers the convenience of "stud-to-finish" subcontracts, with all work done in-house by skilled and trusted employees.
